Latest Updates from Our Project:

It is almost pledge manager survey time!
almost 3 years ago – Sat, Jun 12, 2021 at 03:30:28 AM

Thank you all for your patience. Over the last few weeks, since the Kickstarter concluded on such a high note, I've been building out the BackerKit pledge manager and pre-order store. This morning I made the final tweaks and it was approved by the BackerKit team, so we are all good to start rolling it out!

First Step - The Smoke Test

BackerKit likes to do a little thing called a Smoke Test, where they send the survey out to 5% of backers to see if there are any issues that need to be fixed before it goes out to everyone. It's much easier to handle on this end, and it makes sure everything is as smooth as possible on your end.

I'll hit the Smoke Test button today, and we'll give everyone who receives it the weekend to get their survey filled out and shipping paid for etc. Assuming there are no problems, I'll send it out to everyone else on Monday.

The Pledge Manager Survey itself

We've kept the survey very simple:

• You can choose to increase your pledge level – the best thing to do if you've pledged at the $1 level

• Select any of the Add-Ons you might like – if you already added their value to your pledge total during the campaign, your money will be in there as credit and this is where you get to select the specific Add-Ons you want.

• Enter and confirm your shipping address, email, and phone number. If you have only selected PDF items, you will not need to enter your shipping address.

• Pay for the balance – any level changes, Add-Ons, and shipping. Despite imminent changes to EU VAT laws and a few other hiccups, we've been able to keep the shipping costs very close to our initial estimates in the campaign, with any increases being at most $2.

Please Note: we'll be charging the cards at the end of the Pledge Manager period, which is currently set for the end of September. Knowing that many folks get paid on the first of the month, we'll hold off until October 2nd.

How do I up my pledge level (if I would like to)?

That's a very good question, and we've created these images to guide you through that process.

Step One

On the first page of the pledge manager you'll see this (although your pledge level and location may vary). Click on the text that says "switch your pledge level"underneath the green button.

Step Two

Select the new pledge level you would like. In our example we've picked the "All the Books!" level.

Step Three

Click on the "Switch" button at the bottom of the list.

Step Four

This is a confirmation button. It says that you'll reset various things, but as you haven't entered this information yet, it is all fine. Click on OK.

Step Five

You'll be brought back to this page (note the changed Pledge Level) and you are ready to click on the "Get Started" button. After that everything should be pretty straightforward.

Our final Stretch Goal

We came very close to hitting our final stretch goal during the campaign, and since that time I've spoken with Ana and she has agreed that we can add those pages anyway, so Volume Three will now also have 112 pages of Ana Polanscak goodness in it!

One final bit of housekeeping

Some of you may have noticed in your Kickstarter messages that you received a message during the course of the campaign (dated between April 30 and May 21) about a survey. This was a small survey about the campaign itself that gave us an opportunity to adjust certain things while it was running. The ability to fill out THAT survey ended as soon as the campaign did, so you can comfortably ignore it. The only important survey now will be going to your email inboxes (not KS Messages) over the next 3-4 days.

Of course, if you have any questions, just let me know and we'll get you sorted out. Thank you once again for your support of THE ART OF... series.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
almost 3 years ago – Tue, May 25, 2021 at 12:03:49 AM

Thank you!

Aaron, Elizabeth, Matt, Christof, Ana and I would like to thank everyone for their support on our journey to create the first three Volumes of THE ART OF...  You have shown us that there's a definite desire to see these kinds of books that present more photos than social media, and more info on thought processes than great tutorial videos. We all look forward to creating the best books we can for you to enjoy!

What's next?

• Over the next couple of days, Kickstarter will charge the cards you used, and gather all of the pledge info together.

• Next week I'll start building the BackerKit pledge manager, working with the BackerKit team and my fulfillment partners to ensure we've got everything squared away.

• In mid-June we'll send out all the BackerKit surveys to everyone so that you can make sure you have all the Add-ons you would like and that your shipping costs are covered.

• At the same time, we'll be working through each book, getting the first few chapters of each set in place and making sure that we have a clear path for the final writing stages, photography, editing and layout. These will continue through July and August, and we'll keep you up to date on our progress throughout.

So, keep an eye out in mid-June for the BackerKit survey, and make sure you're following all of our artists on their social medias (found towards the bottom of the campaign page) to see if they give any sneak peeks along the way ;)

Final Stretch Goals revealed!
almost 3 years ago – Fri, May 21, 2021 at 08:25:32 AM

We have welcomed a lot of new supporters overnight, and added eight pages to Volume Three! Our final Stretch Goals to close out the campaign with will each add eight more pages to these books!

We have six hours to go and the momentum to reach these goals too, thanks to your support and sharing the campaign with your friends and hobby groups.

Not long now and we can take a little breather before diving into my favorite part of this project - assembling the books, editing text, arranging images, and working with the artists to make these books excellent representations of the art we all love.

Cheers

Another incredible day!

A 28mm version of Inquisitor Covenant faces down his foes - by Christof Keil. Components from Games Workshop

Yesterday was another great day! Thank you to everyone who joined us on this adventure. As I'm typing this, we have just over 30 hours to go on the campaign and ALL of our Add-ons and Freebies have been unlocked. Everyone backing at $20 or higher will receive FIVE tutorial PDFs absolutely free, and you can add sets of art cards, a poster, gaming tokens, and even a slipcase to your pledge as well.

Our final Stretch Goals are focused on expanding each book, and giving you even more value for your money! Thank you all again for your support.

Onwards and upwards!

We are Adding More Pages!
almost 3 years ago – Fri, May 21, 2021 at 08:07:47 AM

Congratulations, everyone! Thanks to you all, we have crushed another two Stretch Goals today - adding eight pages each to Volumes One and Two. At the pace we are seeing more supporters join our journey, it seems we'll pass another one overnight - adding eight more pages to Volume Three. Very exciting!

We weren't sure we were going to have a strong finish like this (Kickstarters always have me second-guessing myself) but we feel that adding these pages is a great way to celebrate the success. Everyone gets more for the same price they pledged at.

For our next revealed Stretch Goal, we're going to add another eight pages to Volume One, taking it up to a 144-page book.

A little peek behind the curtain

Some of you might be asking "Why eight pages? Why not ten or some other number?" and that's a great question. When working with offset printing, the pages are printed on big rolls of paper and cut down to smaller sheets. These sheets have eight pages on each side and are folded and trimmed to make a 16-page section called a "signature". These signatures are bound together to form the book. It is also possible to create "half-signatures" - eight-page sections that can also be bound into the final book. That's the smallest chunk that can be included. So, working on increases by eight pages at a time makes the most sense.

Thank you all for your wonderful support!

Onwards and upwards!

Cheers
